Carnegie Mellon Science, Technology, and Policy Forum October 8, 2015 2:00pm Location: Connan Room - Cohon University Center Speaker: JIM KUROSE, Assistant Director http://www.nsf.gov/cise/bios/kurose.jsp Dr. Kurose is the Assistant Director of the National Science Foundation (NSF) for Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE). He leads the CISE Directorate, with an annual budget of more than $900 million, in its mission to uphold the nation's leadership in scientific discovery and engineering innovation through its support of fundamental research in computer and information science and engineering, state-of-the-art cyberinfrastructure, and education and workforce development. â Through lectures, panels, and roundtable discussions, the Science, Technology, and Policy Forum at CMU aims to spark dynamic, campus-wide dialogue on scientific and technological innovation and their potential societal and policy impacts. Throughout the academic year, CMU will host recognized internal and external thought leaders who will expose faculty, students, and staff to ways in which research extends beyond the laboratory. The forum also gives the Pittsburgh community an opportunity to hear leading scientists, technologists, and policy experts discuss their fields, potentially promoting science and technology as a critical public good.
